Advisement for the certificate program is available from the Leadership and Literacy Studies Department.
The Post-Master Certificate in Higher Education Leadership requires 12 hours past the master’s degree, by Maryland regulation. The certificate is a professional degree program designed to prepare higher educational leaders. The curriculum emphasizes both theory and practice in the preparation of higher education personnel.
Professionals who might consider the certificate program include, but are not limited to, the following:
- existing college and university staff with master’s degrees in other disciplines
- K-12 teachers and educators with master’s degrees in other aspects of K-12 education
- professionals currently working in other industries who hold master’s degrees in other disciplines and are interested in transitioning their career toward higher education
- college and university teaching faculty with terminal degrees in academic disciplines
Admission
Admission to the PMC-Higher Education Leadership Program requires an application for graduate admission, the application fee, an official transcript showing undergraduate degree completion and an official transcript showing a master’s degree in any field that is not higher education. Additionally, students will need to submit a personal statement that identifies the career-oriented professional development goals for pursing this certificate.
