The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Outdoor Education Leadership, an experiential undergraduate program that prepares students for careers in outdoor education, adventure programming, and related leadership fields through field-based instruction, risk management training, and community partnerships.

At the graduate level, the department offers a range of nationally recognized programs for educators and aspiring leaders. The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for in-service teachers and adult education professionals seeking to strengthen their pedagogical knowledge and instructional practice. Individuals pursuing careers in higher education should apply to the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Higher Education Leadership Track.

The department offers the M.Ed. in Reading Specialist, which prepares educators to assess literacy development, implement evidence-based instruction, and collaborate with teachers and school leaders to improve reading achievement across grade levels.

The department houses three Maryland Approved Programs leading to advanced licensure: the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, the Post-Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership, and the M.Ed. in Reading Specialist, all designed to prepare practicing educators for leadership and specialized professional roles in schools and districts.

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Literacy Studies provides a comprehensive and evolving understanding of literacy from multiple perspectives. Doctoral students develop the expertise to serve as instructional leaders who can identify, contextualize, and address problems of practice in educational settings.
