Public Health, B.S. Curriculum Guide (Suggested 4-Year Plan of Study)
The Bachelor of Science in public health prepares students to work with individuals, groups and families in the worksite, health behavior organizations, university-based health services, wellness centers and employee health behavior programs at the local, state or federal level. The program includes a General Education experience, a required major core curriculum of courses, a 450-hour internship experience and completion of an approved minor. The public health major provides students the opportunity to pursue careers in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, health departments, pharmacies, grocery stores, private nursing homes, government agencies, voluntary health agencies, health maintenance organizations and worksites. Public health professionals carry out their mission through organized, interdisciplinary efforts that address the physical, mental and environmental health concerns of communities and populations at risk for disease and injury.
Students must:
- Receive a C or better for all required major courses.
- All required major core courses must be completed before being admitted into the internship experience.
Program Application
Students must formally apply to the Professional Program in Public Health. To be considered for the program, students must:
- Complete BIOL 205 , GENE PW , HLTH 110 , HLTH 225 , MATH 155 and PSYC 101 with grades of C or better.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, including transfer credits.
- Complete an application requesting formal admission to the Professional Program and show evidence of meeting the requirements for admission.
- Obtain written support from a program faculty member and program director.
Application Deadlines
- Applications for winter/spring admittance are sent out by September 15 and are due September 30.
- Applications for summer/fall admittance are sent out by February 15 and are due February 28.
