Social Studies Minor

Advisement for the minor is available from the Secondary and Physical Education  Department.

The social studies minor includes coursework in a variety of social science disciplines. These courses may serve as preparation for applying for the social studies teaching certificate. As certification in social studies is granted by the state, not the University, completion of the minor requirements and the appropriate teacher education courses does not guarantee certification.

The requirements for the social studies minor include:

  • Complete 20-24 semester hours, 15 of which must be beyond the courses used to fulfill the General Education and academic major.

  • Complete courses with grades of C or better.

  • Courses for the minor will be determined by the student’s major (see below).

Checklist

This checklist is an unofficial tool for planning. Matriculated students and advisors should consult the Academic Requirements Report in GullNet before and after registering for classes each semester to track academic progress.
