ENGL 423 - Educational Linguistics 4 Hour(s) Credit Examines the intersections of language and power in educational settings and provides a language-based analysis of gate-keeping practices in schooling. Core topics focus on critical evaluations of linguistic discrimination, erasure, bias and marginalization of dialect diversity/linguistic variety in multiple educational contexts. This course does not assume any prior knowledge of linguistics. Three hours per week with enhancement Meets General Education: Social Configurations (SC), Diversity and Inclusion (DI) Prerequisites C or better in ENGL 103 ; or permission of instructor if taken concurrently
