The Chemistry Department offers different tracks leading to the Bachelor of Science in chemistry, including two American Chemical Society (ACS)-certified programs and a program leading to secondary education teacher certification.
The department’s curricula foster the development and expression (verbal and written) of rational thought. The faculty attempt to impart an understanding and appreciation of chemistry along with the knowledge, safe laboratory skills and personal integrity necessary for students to be productive members of the larger community of professional chemists. Because chemistry is an experimental discipline, the laboratory experience fosters a sense of self-confidence and independence, as well as an appreciation for the importance of original investigation. Since the study of chemistry is discovery-based, the department is committed to providing meaningful and interesting research experiences in wellequipped laboratories.
