GEOL 313 - Mineralogy and Optical Petrology 4 Hour(s) Credit Introduces students to the fundamentals of mineralogy and petrology, including crystallography, crystal chemistry and optical mineralogy as well as the occurrence and identification of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks in thin section. Learn how to use a petrographic microscope to identify minerals and rocks and understand their occurrence in the context of the tectonic setting from which they are derived. Three hours lecture, two hours laboratory per week. Prerequisites GEOL 103 , CHEM 121 .
