Music Therapy, B.A. Curriculum Guide (Suggested 4-Year Plan of Study)
Major is pending National Association for Schools of Music (NASM) accreditation.
The Music Therapy Program is designed for students who wish to pursue careers as board-certified music therapists in clinical settings. This is a Maryland state-approved comprehensive program that emphasizes music skills required of music therapists, including accompaniment, improvisation and performance proficiencies in piano, guitar and voice. Students complete a variety of psychology and biology courses, as well as several field studies and a rigorous internship at an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA)-approved site.
All students who wish to be admitted to the Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy must successfully pass a music audition and take a theory advisory test. While some students may wish to complete these admission requirements prior to enrollment at Salisbury University and immediately be admitted into the music therapy program, other students may choose to begin as pre-music therapy majors while preparing to complete their admission requirements sometime during their first year of applied study at Salisbury University. Admission and audition guidelines and procedures are available from the Music, Theatre and Dance Department.
Students completing the major in music therapy must complete all music and music therapy courses with grades of C or better and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 to remain in good standing with the program.
