The Department of Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts degree, minors, and K-12 teacher certification in French and Spanish. Introductory coursework is also available in American Sign Language and Japanese.

The Department’s mission is to help students become culturally sensitive, adaptable, civically engaged, and, of course, multilingual. Our classes focus on a variety of global issues that allow students to develop practical skills that stand out in a competitive society. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the Department’s impressive array of study abroad programs and community outreach opportunities, which provide meaningful linguistic and cultural immersion.

Our graduates often prepare for careers that reflect the global nature of today’s world, including education, international business, media, journalism, government, conflict resolution, environmental work, social work, and tourism. No matter the students’ path, foreign language majors are statistically more competitive for jobs, graduate school, and Nationally Competitive Fellowship opportunities.
