FYS ENG10 - Reading the Biblical World 4 Hour(s) Credit Study Jewish and Christian biblical narratives in two simultaneous ways: what those texts already tell us about the daily ancient worlds of their origin, and what new understanding of those texts we can reach by bringing specific research into daily ancient and Classical life back to those texts. See how a working knowledge of the foods, laws, clothing, warfare, trade, citizenship qualifications, slavery system, communication systems, sex and gender formulations, economics, and language quirks of the ancient biblical world illuminate current readings of those passages in their original contexts. Three hours per week with enhancement Meets General Education: First Year Seminar (FYS)
