FYS ART14 - The Selfie/Self-Portrait: Artistic, Social, Historical, and Psychological Perspectives 4 Hour(s) Credit Explore the evolving practice of self-representation through the lens of the arts, history, social media, and psychology. From historical self-portraits to ‘the Selfie,’ analyze how self-images shape identity, self-expression, and societal perception. Through an interdisciplinary approach, examine artistic techniques and motivations behind self-portraits across historical periods; the role of self-portraiture in reflecting and challenging social norms; the psychological implications of self-representation, self-esteem, identity, and digital narcissism; and the impact of social media on the way individuals curate and present themselves. Engage in discussions, analysis, and creative projects that critically assess the significance of self-imagery. Six hours per week Meets General Education: First Year Seminar (FYS)
