HLSC 103 - Civic and Community Engagement in Health Care


4 Hour(s) Credit
An interactive approach to interprofessional treatment, management and education on chronic diseases prominent in the U.S. Through community and civic engagement activities, participate in at least one local and/or regional outreach activity offered by renowned health care organizations such as American Heart Association, United Way Lower Eastern Shore, MAC Center and TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. Interact with subject matter experts on chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to offer an authentic perspective of driving issues on chronic diseases affecting the U.S. health care system. Mirroring present-day health care practice, learn through a team-based approach with participative online threaded discussions and delivery of mini-projects.
Two face-to-face lectures for 75 minutes each, in addition to minimum of one professional health care activity (one hour enhancement).
