FYS ENG04 - The Romance Novel and Its Tropes 4 Hour(s) Credit Discuss the genre of romance - looking at the origins of the romance genre in literature, the contemporary romance novel landscape and rom-com films over the last century. Examine how genres function and how tropes are a key part of understanding genre and culture. Through the popular romance trope of “enemies to lovers,” think critically about how genres shape our society and vice versa, as well as how we can read popular texts through a more incisive and thoughtful lens. Gain an introduction to campus resources, including the SU Libraries, Writing Center and Center for Student Achievement, that will help you in your success as an SU student. Three hours per week with enhancement Meets General Education: First Year Seminar (FYS) May Not Receive Credit for Both if a second FYS is taken. Taking a second FYS will replace the original FYS grade, regardless of topic.
