PHIL 321 - Philosophy of Race and Ethnicity 4 Hour(s) Credit Undergo a philosophical examination of how we think about race, ethnicity, and racism. These topics are frequently discussed but rarely examined in depth and problematized. Learn about how the ideas were formed historically and to understand how they shape individual experiences and current events in our society. Explore questions such as: What is “race”? Is “race” real? What is “ethnicity”? How is personal identity related to race and ethnicity? What is the nature of racism? Also consider the ways that the idea of race underlies current issues such as mass incarceration and the state of public education. Three hours per week with enhancement. Meets General Education: Diversity and Inclusion (DI)
