FYS FRN01 - Between Reality and Fiction, Re-Thinking Documentary Films from the Francophone World

4 Hour(s) Credit
Question the nature and the boundaries of “documentary films” as a genre that tends to be regarded as “truthful recordings of objective reality.” Learn how to decipher audiovisual media by using documentary films about and from the francophone world as a support for reflection and discussions. In addition to being exposed to the specific methodologies of audio-visual media, also rely on critical texts about films in general, about the genre of documentary films in particular and about the specific history of francophone documentary. Gain an introduction to the analytical tools necessary for navigating with a critical lens a world that relies more than ever on audiovisual messages. Also learn about and use several resources that will help you be a successful student, including the library and the Writing Center as well as elementary audiovisual content creation and editing techniques as a mean for expression and communication.
