SPAN 316 - Latin American Cultures in Context 4 Hour(s) Credit Study the historical events, artistic artifacts, societal institutions and individual figures that have shaped and defined the countries of Latin America from pre-Encounter times to the present. The first half of this course is dedicated to history. It is impossible to understand another culture without understanding its past. The second part examines topics such as women, art, music and religion. Taken together, these two parts offer a semester-long dialogue between culture and the context that has informed it.
