ENGL 537 - Survey of Modern English Grammar 3 Hour(s) Credit To provide an understanding of the systematic structure and rules of English, i.e., the system underlying the construction of possible sentences in the English language; the grammatical terminology and concepts necessary for the analysis of English structures, i.e., the metalanguage of analysis; the application of such a theoretical background in the actual linguistic analysis of English constructions; the utility of such a knowledge in the future teaching of English, to both native and ESOL speakers; and some typical fallacies concerning the structure and pedagogical applications of English grammar.
